WRIT 201 (Jana Parsons): Searching in a Database Review

This guide will provide an overview of research strategies and help you complete the research requirements for WRIT 201.

Choosing a Database

Weaver Library has over 100 databases for you to choose from to complete research for your class. Our A-Z database list has some handy features to help you choose the right database for your search.

Subject Filter

You can filter databases by subject area, which can give you content and sources more relevant to your research topic. Some examples of areas of study with subject specific databases are health topics, education, and psychology.

The All subjects drop down is open with subjects: accounting, aerospace, agriculture, etc. showing. This drop down is outlined in red.

Database Types Filter

The databases types filter allows you to filter databases by the type of content they offer. This is a helpful tool to choose a database based on te most relevant source type for your needs. Examples of database types are full-text, journals and journal articles, news & newspapers, and abstract, index, and citation. Remember, a database can contain multiple types of information, so it is possible to find journal articles, magazines, news, and abstract and indexing information all in one database. This is why it is important to be able to evaluate different source types. For more information see the "Evaluating Sources Review" tab in this guide.
